Franklin Recreation Commission Minutes of July 7, 2010 • Meeting was called to order at 8:00 by Chairman Jacksin • Visitors in attendance, None • Minutes from the June 2nd meeting were distributed. A motion was made by Lee J to accept the Minutes as presented; this was seconded by Todd H and passed without further discussion or dissent. • Treasurer’s Report, None • Additions to the Agenda, None • Old Business o Rich H reported that time got away from him and the 2 loads of clay previously authorized for the “old” softball field on the school side of Rte 207 had not been ordered. o Rich H reported that a Certificate of Insurance has been received for Nick Salvamini for the Eagle Scout project to be performed at Giddings Park. o Lee J reported that he had ordered the medals & ribbons for the Striders events but had not yet received them. • New Business o Lee J reported that he had fixed a glider at Giddings Park that was broken and posing a safety hazard. o After a discussion regarding parking in certain areas near the Senior League field causing a safety issue for the runners Lee J motioned to authorize Rich H to pick up (if not available from the Town Garage, 3 No Parking signs to be strategically placed to try to alleviate the issue. The Motion was seconded by Rich H and passed on a 3-1 vote. o Rich H brought up that there are signs around advertising a For the Love of The Game Baseball Clinic in Franklin and that their web site states a clinic will be held at Giddings Park the week of 8/2 – 8/6. Although we have authorized this group to use the facilities in the past, they have not come before the Commission or provided a current COI for 2010. o Bill F made the Commission aware of a possible Eagle Scout project to refinish the pavilion and playscapes at Giddings Park. He has requested that we add Mr. Nicholas Salvemini to the Agenda of our June meeting. o Striders Picnic will be August 21, 2010. o Franklin Lions Horse Show will be August 22, 2010. • Safety Concerns, none raised • Correspondence o 2011 will mark Franklin’s 225th Anniversary and Rich Matters would like the Recreation Commission to head up a “Franklin Day” in recognition of this milestone. o Anyone injured on Town property or while engaging in volunteer work on behalf of the Town must report such injuries immediately to the First Selectman’s office. • A motion to adjourn was made by Todd H and seconded by Lee J. This passed without further discussion or dissent.
